Chartered Planner Kate Davenport joins growing firm
Robertson Baxter have added Chartered Financial Planner, Kate Davenport, to their growing team.
Kate brings the total number of financial professionals at Robertson Baxter to 12, and adds a wealth of academic and practical experience to the technical team.
As well as her Chartered status, Kate has a law degree and is currently training to become STEP (Society of State and Trust Practitioners) qualified. She joins the team from Leeds-based firm The Private Office.
Robertson Baxter manages the financial future of 200 very high net worth individuals, trustees and charities and it was her experience in dealing with portfolios of this type, as well as her qualifications, that appealed to the firm according to Founding Director, Stephen Baxter.
“Kate’s appointment is a key one for us,” he said. “Her experience of dealing with the type of clients we have is of huge benefit.
“She is a key member of the technical team and will research the background of a client’s existing arrangements and the new arrangements that our IFAs propose. She looks at all round charges, taxation and level of risk. It’s about the detail, making sure the client gets the right advice in the report that she writes and then the adviser delivers. It’s what she enjoys doing and this is what she has the experience in doing.
“The STEP qualification is more of a law qualification,” he added, “which means there is a crossover in the understanding of the advice that a lawyer would give and we can work better having that knowledge in house. Simply, it gives us added credibility when dealing with them.”
Robertson Baxter, now in its ninth year of trading, has continued to go from strength. The firm has built up a reputation regionally as one with exacting standards, superior quality of advice and industry-leading client servicing. It is this approach that appealed to Kate, as she explains:
“Robertson Baxter have a completely different approach to servicing clients – it’s warm, honest and plain-speaking. That was the attraction for me – the type of client that Robertson Baxter works with and they way they go about things,” she said.
“The quality and ambition is on a higher level to anything I have experienced before – and I’ve been working in financial services for 30 years.
“My role is very similar to the one I’ve been doing my whole career. I’m a paraplanner, which means I deal with queries from the advisers on technical issues. I prepare recommendations and financial planning reports.
“Because Robertson Baxter is a firm of truly independent financial advisers, I’m able to analyse the entire market and compile results that would best suit our clients.
“I’ve done a law degree and I’m doing my STEP exams, so I’ll be able to utilise those skills as well as my other financial skills and I’m looking forward to using them to the full in this new role.”
